Gravlex Med is a mid-sized planet with a number of unusual features. Foremost, the planet has a gravity that one would expect from a gas giant rather than a planet of its size. Scientists theorize that this is due to an extremely dense planetary core, but this is only the most likely of a number of theories. This high gravity has saved the Anx species on at least one occasion from extinction, when the invading Shusugaunt found they could not tolerate the planet's gravity and abandoned their attempt at conquest. Furthermore, the planet has an extremely elliptical orbit around its sun, resulting in a temperature swing of over one hundred sixty degrees Centigrade between the highest and lowest temperatures recorded on the planet during its year, which itself is over twelve standard years in length.

During its winter, the planet is locked under a blanket of ice and snow several meters deep. During this time, much of the planet's wildlife hibernates in the extensive network of caves under the planet's surface. During the long spring and fall, the planet bursts into life. Chiliox trees cover the savanna and are the favorite food of the native Anx. Large herds of grazers roam the savannas and are in turn preyed upon by a number of truly impressive mega-predators. Rivers flow into a number of small seas teaming with fish. During the long summer, when temperatures on the plains soar to levels well above what many animals can tolerate, much of that wildlife migrates into the caves and up into the highlands, where the temperature is at least a little more tolerable. This extreme temperature swing also explains why there are so few cities on the surface.

Another unique feature of the landscape is a number of gigantic cannons that were historically used to propel early Anx spacecraft to escape velocity. Not many of these old cannons remain, and those that do are carefully maintained for their historical value. The Anx were actually among the earliest races to discover interstellar travel, using the craft launched by these gigantic cannons and colonizing a number of nearby planets even before encountering the Old Republic some five thousand years BCGT.
