Planet: Borleias
Table of Contents [hide]

Borleias is a planet found in the Pyria system, fourth from the sun, and is the largest habitable planet in the system. The majority of the planet hosts mildly warm temperatures and frequent, gentle rainfall. A very subtle axial tilt and a stable orbit of the Pyria star provides little seasonal variance. The orbit of Blackmoon, the solitary moon, does cause some tidal fluctuations of the seas.

The orbit of Borleias passes near one of the four Pyria asteroid fields on a yearly schedule, near enough to pull many small asteroids into the atmosphere. Although the resulting meteor shower can be amazing to witness, it can also cause lasting damage to the planet. Several larger meteors have made it to the surface throughout the history of the planet. The impact of these meteors has created several caves, rocky valleys, and one immense impact crater, the Iona Caldera, which has yet to succumb to the wild growth that dominates the planet.

Mostly covered in lush jungles and arboreal forests, Borleias also has swathes of grassland, a smattering of swamplands, a few small desert areas, and the Kolon de Chielo, a large mountain range containing at least two active volcanoes. Three seas lie close together, separated by swamps. The largest, Tiamat, is rich in several dissolved minerals, which gives the entire body of water a luminescent quality, easily visible at night, and stunning when viewed from orbit. Tiamat and Qingu both have incredibly scenic beaches, made up of finely ground pieces of a coral-like substance. The smallest sea, Abzu, is surrounded by swamps on three sides. These swamps serve as natural filters, leaving Abzu with some of the purest naturally occurring freshwater found anywhere in the galaxy.

Several hundred years ago, Alderaan Biotics established a small operation on the planet, and eventually, the Galactic Republic established a small base that was used as a stopover on a route to the Corporate Sector. Eventually, the infrequent use of the hyper-route led to its decay, and both operations were abandoned, leaving the structures to be reclaimed by aggressive plant life.

Recently rediscovered by the Invid Order, Borleias has a plant-rich biosphere that dominates the majority of the planet. Although there are a few native species of animal, the most notable being the Borleian Imooda, a spike-tailed reptile found in the jungle region. There are also several species descended from experiments performed by Alderaan Biotics and abandoned farm stock.

The most notable plant among the varied foliage is the immense Whorlheart plant, a semi-parasitic fruiting vine that climbs its way up the trunks of nearby trees and offers its fruit in a spiraling structure somewhat like a chandelier. These structures are sought by many of the forest creatures to be used as nests, while the fruits themselves have been found to have a mild antacid property.
