Last Updated: Year 16 Day 364
Planet: Jedha

NaJedha's desert moon was mentioned in the Rammahgon as one of the places where "the seeds of the Jedi were sown." A barren world of brisk days and frigid nights, the "Pilgrim Moon" has long been revered as a deeply sacred vergence point by worshippers of the Force. What we refer to today as Jedha would otherwise be an unlikely place to have attracted so much attention. But the history of its habitation stretches back beyond all records.

In the west, the dunes of the great Narkis Desert march ever onward, breaking like waves upon the rocky mesas of the Desiccated Tablelands to the east. Herds of spamels roam the frosty wastes and are hunted by hungry sutabans, while skritons burrow into the dustbowls to lay in ambush for their prey. One can hardly trek more than a few kilometers before catching sight of a primeval ruin or toppled sandstone colossus, so deep is the hallowed past of the "Kyber Heart."

Scholars speculate that the earliest settlement, called NiJedha in the most ancient texts, may have been inhabited by Bendu monks. Some historians have even suggested that the Jedi Order took its name from Jedha, for indeed, they ruled as the moon's dominant orthodoxy for many centuries. But by the time of the Galactic Republic, Jedha was home to countless religions, and the moon was governed by a representative council known as the Convocation of the Force.

As more direct and efficient hyperlanes developed, Jedha progressively became more isolated and economically dependent upon the traffic of pilgrims, who were often mendicants with little wealth to offer. The stern asceticism of the theocracy on Jedha was never popular with the secular residents, and by the modern age, the feeling of resentment had grown to the point where commercial and industrial interests were invited to intervene and sweep the status quo aside.
