The planet Takodana is a predominately green world with thick forests and lush grasslands surrounding small lakes and meandering rivers. Due to the planet's lack of any orbiting moons or other celestial bodies, Takodana's major waterways lack any major tidal activity. Takodana has remained virtually untouched by civilisation over the millennia due to its location far removed from major centres of trade. Only its relative proximity to popular routes to the southern portion of the galaxy gave life to this halfway stop between civilisation as core worlds would know it and the rough living in outer regions that core worlds would believe it to be. As technology improved over time and more direct routes to the Outer Rim became prevalent, Takodana faded into obscurity before being forgotten.

Several long-abandoned ruins indicate the presence of sentient life using the planet as a temporary base of operations. While many of the ruins remain unexplored by archaeologists, early reports indicate that the remains of a fortress could be located at the site of a fabled battle between ancient Jedi and Sith during the early years of the Old Republic. Although research is still incomplete, these reports have already been contested by some in the academic community.

Following Takodana's rediscovery by the galaxy, and cartographers re-designated the sector's boundaries, a flurry of activity has promoted the planet's development to levels which potentially subject its natural wonders to harmful activity. Ecologists have since expressed concern about several native species rarely seen in the outside galaxy, in particular the small bird-like Convorees and the stunningly pink Flurrg. Assessments on the impacts on the Convorees habitats are made exceedingly difficult by the bird's skittish nature. Even less is known about how development will affect the Flurrg species as they are rarely seen outside of the lake districts on Takodana. Since its rediscovery, Takodana has been sought as a major stopover for those wishing to remain undetected by governments for its semi-off-route status as well as those looking for a relaxing holiday destination.
