Kowak is a lush and verdant planet dominated by thick tropical rainforests. The moisture trapped by the canopy and the unique gasses emitted from the plants keeps the world humid and warm year-round. This stable climate, in turn, encourages plant growth, allowing Kowak to become one of the galaxy's horticultural diversity hotspots. While researchers have yet to fully survey the world, it has been theorized that the jungles started in small groves along the shoreline and expanded inland over hundreds of millions of years. The few remaining bald patches have mineral elements that prohibit plant growth, but over time it is thought jungle will completely overtake the planet if its course is not altered by development.

Cartographers have known about Kowak's existence for some time, but it went largely unnoticed by all but a few researchers whose work was drowned out during an era of great galactic expansion and discovery. It was finally rediscovered in Year 22. While Kowak is home to many unique species of life, the only arguably sentient life it hosts is the Kowakian Monkey-Lizard.
