Planet: Ingo III
Table of Contents [hide]

Ingo III is a gas giant located in the Ingo system in the Bortele Cluster. The planet itself is a rather modest gas giant, but quite worthy of the name. It is primarily made up of methane, oxygen, nitrogen, and helium, making the planet's atmosphere quite hospitable. There are also several deposits of tibanna gas located on the planet. As the only gas giant in the system to have an ecumenopolis on it, Ingo III is a rarity. It was once home to the megalopolis New Churba, which housed just over 100 million residents.

New Churba was built long ago, as colonists and miners fleeing Ingo II faced a tragic natural disaster. One of the peaceful cities on that planet erupted in flame due to a volcano beneath it. Rather than move to another city on the same planet, millions of residents moved to start a new life on the nearby gas giant. This population soon grew, and the city was forced to spend billions of credits expanding the floating platform. Eventually, the population reached a hundred million. Unfortunately, the architects of the renovations and expansion failed to anticipate the sheer weight that the residents and equipment would be piling on top of it. As a result, more than 70 percent of the megalopolis collapsed, sending twisted wreckage falling through the clouds. This disaster took more than 30 million lives, and many generations later, the cities are only now recovering.

As for the wreckage, no one knows what happened to it. Several expeditions were sent out immediately after the disaster, in an attempt to save any who might have survived the collapse. Unfortunately, none of those expeditions returned, bring into question the nature of the planet. It is said that deep within the core of the planet, if a gas giant could have one, is an ocean of compressed acidic gases that destroy ships and vehicles. Of course, this is only one of many theories about the nature of the planet, and no one has confirmed them. However, it would explain another reason why so much of New Churba was destroyed: an updraft of acidic gasses could have weakened the platform.
