Last Updated: Year 25 Day 170
Planet: Mawan II
Table of Contents [hide]

Mawan II is the third planet in the Mawan system. Much of it is covered with ice, though there are a few pockets of bare rock and even a field of lava near the equator. Fairy tales often tell of a people made of ice that once lived here, but suddenly vanished for no apparent reason. No findings on the planet have ever substantiated the remote possibility that the race ever existed, however. With its toxic atmosphere and cold climate, Mawan II does not support any but the most basic, and hardy, life forms.

Mawan II does, however, have quite a beautiful array of ice formations. Many tourists flock here every year despite the toxic conditions. The formations of the ice can range from four to forty-five feet tall. Many odd formations develop due to the toxic conditions on the planet. They have been known to change color in less than an hour and their pale hues range from a greenish-blue to reddish pink, depending on the time of day. Many tourists would claim that this is the spot of the best ice formations on this side of the galactic core.

Often succumbing to the beauty of the planet and venturing out into the ice fields on foot, many travelers have found themselves lost and have died from exposure to the elements while trying to find their way back. Their disorientation could be due to the fact that there are no trees or other natural landmarks with which to mark one's position or help get one's bearing. Everywhere one looks, the terrain appears the same, yet different. Folklore, however, tells of a giant creature, a remnant of the ice people's era, who hunts down anyone who ventures alone. A tourist straggler is an easy target for his next meal. The ones that go missing are never recovered or heard from again.

Whatever a visitor's interest, it is strongly advised that they do not leave the guide. Mawan II's nights are long and perilous as the planet's day cycle lasts about three hundred and fifty standard hours, although a year on its surface is only seventy-six standard days.
