Arkanis VII is one of the frozen giants that haunt the far reaches of the Arkanis system. The pull between the gravity of Arkanis' star and the large planets like Arkanis VIII and IX has left its crust uneven, and small regions of intense volcanic activity have ruptured from the mantle below in those places where the crust is thin. Unlike other planets in the system with increased seismic and volcanic activity, the majority of Arkanis VII's surface is not comprised of cooled magma stone but of a dense igneous rock leftover from the planet's formation. The increased gravity of the world has kept the lava and ash plumes from spreading very far.

While Arkanis VII has no atmosphere and thus no native plant life, it has given rise to a surprisingly diverse ecosystem of microbes and smaller animals that have evolved to withstand the vacuum and who feed off either mineral deposits on the surface or who have adapted a sort of photosynthesis to convert the unfiltered radiation that bombards the planet into useful energy. Many of these mollusks and crustaceans can reach the size of a human hand, while the truly massive ones rival the size of Duracrete Slugs or Space Slugs. Because there is no atmosphere on Arkanis VII, there are no weather patterns, and these creatures thrive in their stable and predictable environments.

Oddly enough, the colonization of Arkanis VII was not initiated by industry. Rather, the earliest settlements appear to have been comprised of impoverished homesteaders who hoped to scratch out a living prospecting or who simply wanted to escape life on the more populated worlds. While mining remains one of the largest industries on Arkanis VII, ranching and food export has long been the planet's most important and profitable livelihoods. Many of the native creatures are unique and can fetch high prices in the exotic food markets on Arkanis and in neighboring systems and sectors. Attempts to cultivate them on other similar planets have proven mysteriously unsuccessful, allowing the hardy ranchers and foragers of Arkanis VII to corner the market on them and make healthy incomes for most and fortunes for some.
