Few worlds in the galaxy hold the mystery and enigma that Yavin IV does, the largest moon of the gas giant Yavin Prime in the Gordian Reach sector of the Outer Rim. Vast expanses of untamed jungle inhabited by indigenous life forms such as the semi-sentient woolamanders dominate its lunar surface, dotted with the remnants of ancient temples and mighty fortresses built millennia ago by the equally secretive Massassi warriors. Two large bodies of water at the north and south poles encapsulate the unbroken expansive landmass that makes up this world's surface, while wide and treacherous rivers - home to the aquatic gundark, among others - snake across the vibrant tapestry of the verdancy that it constitutes. The equatorial reaches harbour pockets of civilisation, where small cities and towns have been integrated into the existing architecture left behind by Yavin IV's now-extinct original inhabitants. In turn, the southern hemisphere is home to tall and mighty mountain peaks that rise far above the jungle canopy enclosing them, having been the source of many harrowing legends and tales involving the now-lost Massassi warriors and their Sith overlords from the distant past.

While formally categorised as a moon, Yavin IV has the circumference of a large rocky planet, being among the largest lunar celestial objects in the known galaxy. Its rotational period of 24 hours is akin to that of terrestrial planets of similar size, yet the moon has an extensive orbital period around its solar primary, namely a staggering total of 4.818 days. The orange-hued gas giant Yavin Prime is a near-constant sight to behold in the skies above Yavin IV's jungles, as the two celestial bodies partake in a never-ending dance across the galactic plane.

The history of Yavin IV is intertwined with the history of the ancient Sith. Five millennia ago, in the calamitous aftermath of the Great Hyperspace War, the Dark Lord Naga Sadow fled to the lush moon alongside his Massassi warriors, fearsome descendants of the ancient red-skinned Sith race. Rumours and local myths suggest that Sadow conducted horrifying arcane experiments on his Massassi followers, transforming them into mindless and savage slaves that built the temples and fortresses dotting the moon’s surface. Centuries later, Yavin IV was visited by the fallen Jedi Exar Kun, who communed with Sadow’s spirit and became the new Dark Lord of the Sith, enslaving the remaining Massassi once more. The largest temple that remains standing to this day, located within the deepest depths of this moon’s jungles, is dedicated to Exar Kun, with some of the more superstitious locals believing that the walls of the great temple still house traces of Kun’s imprisoned spirit.

In recent times, the moon and its celestial companions have fallen under the care of the Gordian Reach Authority. A conscious effort is being made to preserve the temples and fortresses of Yavin IV as historical and cultural sites. As a result, Sith cultists and other followers of the Dark Side make secret pilgrimages to this enigmatic satellite of Yavin Prime to either pay their respects to those they worship as gods or to experience an inkling of the mysterious, dark energies that seem to permeate the atmosphere of this verdant moon.
