When the Rebel Alliance was outfitting itself for war, one of its most basic requirements was for individual protective body armour. The panoply needed to be light and unrestrictive, capable of absorbing or deflecting threats that might injure a soldier and prevent them from performing, and it also needed to be distinctive enough to be recognizable at a distance. Rather than reinventing the wheel, Zee Wolf proposed adopting the uniform armour worn by the fleet defense forces of planet Alderaan. The Royal House and High Council were sympathetic toward the rebel cause, and their unique armours were already being mass-produced. The assimilation of the equipment was so swift and thorough, that the headgear is now commonly known across the galaxy as the Rebel Trooper Helmet.
A broad durasteel dome serves as the helmet's foundation. The frontal lobe is reinforced with the addition of a second plate, bolted into position to form a layered effect that offers improved protection and also serves as a carriage for the retractable visor. The tinted visor can be lowered to protect the eyes from strong wind, flying debris, and blinding flashes while also obscuring the wearer's identity. An articulated wing extends down the rear of the dome to provide protection to the back of the neck while remaining flexible enough to permit the wearer to look up. The addition of an integrated comlink enables rebel troops to network over short distances and communicate clearly despite the noise of battle. The internal harness can be adjusted to fit most humanoid species and a cupped chinstrap helps to keep the helmet securely in place. No longer produced by Alderaan, the singular shape of this helmet became synonymous with the New Republic and the rebellion against the Empire.
