A vital component of lightsaber engineering, the crystal control takes energy from the power supply and focuses it through a series of mounted crystals in order to produce a stream of plasma. The most efficient designs utilize three crystals: a large primary lens and two smaller focusing lenses. Each of these crystals must be very carefully aligned or they will not produce a stable plasma stream. The level of absolute precision required has been described as supernatural and is one of the reasons why lightsabers have never been successfully mass-produced. The primary and focusing lenses are housed in the crystal energy chamber, which is connected to the energy gate at the input side and the blade energy channel at the output. Due to the number of crystal controls which have been crafted by Force devotees over the millennia, they can sometimes be found in the inventories of merchants and collectors, and the pirates who prey upon them. But the vital crystals that make the component functional are never included.
