The Razor Starfighter was an advanced strike craft designed by the Starypan/Sunhui Spaceworks company. The Razor was conceived as an advanced Multi-Role Strike Fighter, capable of swift independent deployment from slower carrier ships. Starypan and Sunhui chose to design the starfighter around existing components, subcontracting many of the ship's major systems but manufacturing it in-house. The result was an incredibly capable modern starfighter that garnered respect and accolades for its performance, affordability, and unwavering reliability.
Powerful sublight engines from the R-41 were internally mounted within the ship's fuselage, safeguarding the vital components. While it boasted a reliable reputation and potent sublight capabilities, the engine itself was not known for its response rate, slightly hindering the fighter's maneuvering capability. The Razor addressed this issue with the addition of multi-position S-Foils. The winglets could lock themselves into a flattened position, extending the length of the wing itself and increasing its maneuverability. Orientated into attack position, the S-Foils could also adjust the heavy laser-mounted wingtips vertically, granting the Razor an impressive firing arc.
Explosive munitions were housed within the ship's fuselage, deployable through a retractable bay on the craft's underside. This position limited the overall capacity of the concussion missile launchers but significantly enhanced aerodynamics and further increased maneuverability. Similar treatment was given to the retractable ion cannons, which were mounted just below the cockpit and locked into a forward-facing position during operation.
The R-300h hyperdrive motivator was widely available and provided the Razor with the desired rapid response and strike capabilities, while remaining compact enough to accommodate an asymmetrical droid socket within the fuselage. Utilizing excess reactor power to overclock an existing Xolynn 9771 shield generator, provided exceptional shielding capabilities. Modern laminated durasteel armor plating was extremely durable, easy to repair, and readily available. With major components available both new and reclaimed from retired craft, the Razor quickly earned a reputation for its ease of repair and low maintenance costs among fleet mechanics who were already familiar with much of the componentry.
Starypan/Sunhui was later acquired by the Tresario Star Kingdom, and Razor Starfighter production was nationalized. Subsequent Tresario Razor variants were equipped with integration for the Guardian flight equipment, providing additional capabilities for the starfighter along with improved pilot safety features. Razors manufactured before the acquisition are often coveted pieces of hardware in private fleets and can now be found operating throughout most of the galaxy.
