Boma Tusk (Trophy)
Table of Contents [hide]

This frequently found trophy is a tusk from the lower jaw of a boma. Approximately ten to twelve centimetres long in adult animals, the tusk are extracted when the animal is killed. Composed of a particularly dense and high grade ivory, these tusks are sough after by tribal artisans and used to scrimshander scenes of cultural significance. True artisan of boma ivory can produce scenes of remarkable detail, using fine dremel tools, keen-bladed knives and even flint carving implements. Once the scenes is carved into the tusk, the artist will ink in the scenes with various types of ink, previously sourced from natures, although these are now being replaced by commercially available chemical pigments. The whole tooth is then covered in several layers of lacquer in order to protect the art and set to dry. Finished pieces from master carvers can fetch hundreds or even thousands of credits on the open market. Another use for boma tusks, albeit one that is now dying out, is their use as a form of currency on a handful of particularly backward planets in the outer rim. On these worlds, there are few modern amenities and fewer modern weapons, so hunting to tough little boma beasts requires swiftness, tenacity and patience on the part of the hunter, meaning that the tusks collected are of relatively high value..
