The paw of the Kowakian Monkey-Lizard can be found all across the galaxy, despite the best efforts of both conservationists and customs officials. The value of the paw varies wildly depending on the eye of the beholder - for many, the paw represents the successful hunt of a near sentient species, a challenging trophy to obtain. For others, the paws are traded and cooked openly as a delicacy in outer rim markets, with Monkey-Lizards often being kept alive and fresh in cages at the food stalls themselves. The paws are outlawed in several core systems, with many humanoid sentients finding the paw far too eerily similar to their own to be tasteful.

Others seek out the paw of the Monkey-Lizard for their fabled abilities to grant wishes or provide clairvoyance for decisions. Recently discovered ruins on Kowak tell the tale of a "Mad Queen of Kowak" whose obsessive use of a paw for guidance brought her entire empire to ruin, with both the planet and the system itself being lost to the galaxy as a result. Despite the ominous tales, the trade of the paws only seems to be increasing as the Monkey-Lizard's range and territory continue to expand across the galaxy.
