Malreaux Rose (Trophy)
Table of Contents [hide]
This member of the rose genus was developed by the noted horticulturist family that lent their surname to the blossom. The Malreaux rose bush grows to approximately one point five metres in height, with deep emerald cordate leaves that grow is a spiral pattern on the smooth branches. The shrub is armed with sharp, hooked thorns, a common feature in most rose species. On the Malreaux rose, these thorns are black tipped and up to a centimetre long, providing ample deterrent for most large plant predators. The plant grows large cyanthiform flowers of a red so deep it can appear indigo or almost black, that give off a heady, sweet aroma that most sentient species find highly appealing. These blossoms, which can be up to ten centimetres across, can last for a week or more without wilting if separated from the parent plant, and produce an even stronger sweeter smell before they finally wilt. This feature makes the Malreaux rose a highly sought after bloom in florists on many planets and they have been known to pay significant sums for a sapling of this delightful flower.
