Trandosha is an emerald-hued orb that traverses the Kashyyyk system, rotating on a lateral axis, causing its polar regions to be oriented to the east and west. While the temperatures in the polar zones are quite frigid, the habitable zone is surprisingly balmy and characterized by vast rocky plains called the Scorch. Life abounds in the Scorch, where areas of damp vegetation are nourished by glacial springs that run underground from the ice caps to the southern sea. Trandoshan hounds and gnathgrgs roam the shifting desert sands, and the sea abounds with frist sharks and Doshian jellyfish, a delicacy to the native Trandoshans who evolved here.

Trandosha, known simply as Dosha by the Trandoshans themselves, has long stood in the figurative shadow of the neighboring world of Kashyyyk. While it became a member of the Galactic Republic seven thousand years ago, Trandosha's population was always much smaller, and thus the system was always represented in the Senate by Wookiees. Trandosha's technological advancement was somewhat hindered as a result until four thousand years ago, when the angry Trandoshans began to negotiate with the Czerka Corporation for the exclusive right to supply them with Wookiee slaves. These two cultures have been locked in mutual conflict ever since.

Prosperity only came to Trandosha through industrial interests, and indeed, at the Battle of Hsskhor in 1003 BCGT, the Trandoshans demonstrated their political disillusionment by attacking both Republic and Sith forces, ultimately resulting in the destruction of their capital by the Sith. At the outbreak of the First Galactic Civil War, Trandosha abandoned the Republic in favor of an industrial mining partnership with the 12 Colonies. This proved to be quite profitable until Trandosha was reclaimed by the New Republic in Year 8 and held for more than a decade before ultimately that government was toppled by the Empire.
