Usk III is an idyllic planet. It is the only planet in the system with both a pleasant climate and no large predators. In this regard, Usk III was perfect for settlement as a base of operations by mining companies to use as headquarters for its corporate offices. Due to ongoing mining operations nearby, the populace of Usk III is a cosmopolitan mixture of other races from all over the galaxy. The cities of Usk III sport impressive architecture and an air of harmony for a diverse economy from administrative and bureaucratic jobs, to more physical and manual labor. Although Usk III was conceived of as the capital of the system, as time went on prospectors on leave from assignment in-system discovered that it has a fair amount of raw material deposits in its own right. As a result, the local government manages closely the extraction of any raw materials on the planet to preserve the balance between maintaining a serene capital world and conserve the planet's natural beauty with the industrial realities of an economy dependent on mining interests.

The most distinctive feature of Usk III is that the northern and southern landmasses are separated by an ocean band that runs around the whole equator. Geologists speculate that the unique tidal features surrounding the planet's equatorial ocean have contributed to the mineral deposits found throughout the planet crust. The northern continent is covered with thick forest that thins out into polar ice as the treeline approaches the northern tip of the planet, while the southern continent has wide-open areas of rolling tundra grassland nourished by a freshwater river.
