About a century ago, the government of Akrit’tar, pressured by corporate officials, and under threat of rebellion, granted full planetary control to the corporate ruling board, then consisting of 14 companies. The board took over all governmental functions, and discovered that the government had been hoarding extraordinary amounts of money, a result of extremely high taxation. The companies gave much of the money back to the people, raising the standard of living, and propelling Akrit’tar into its current prosperous state. Bariladan and Atara bought out all of the remaining 12 partners in the original ruling board, and currently have joint control of the planet.
Fortunately for the population, Bariladan and Atara have a very good business relationship, and cooperate very well on almost all issues. This peaceful relationship has allowed the planet to prosper, and increased the cash flow into the planet. The inhabitants of Akrit’tar are shrewd businessmen, even though they do almost all of their trading off world, in their splinter colony on the planet Haravathain.
According to recent surveys, nearly 65% of the planet’s population is considered wealthy on almost any world, and most of the rest are fairly well off. Living on Akrit’tar is extremely expensive, beaten only by the cost of vacationing there. Akrit’tar is one of the premier vacation destinations in the galaxy, and is also one of the most costly. Even the lowest end accommodations on Akrit’tar are far too expensive for most commoners to afford.
With the amount of wealth on the planet, the inhabitants are extremely cautious with their security. The local law enforcement agency is one of the top in the galaxy, and boasts the largest and most secure prison in the sector. Each year, the customs agency becomes stricter on immigrants and visitors to Akrit’tar.
Those few who are allowed to visit Akrit’tar are stunned by its cleanliness and beauty. Incredible mountain ranges, blue oceans, and lush green forests cover the surface of the planet. The most memorable section of Akrit’tar is the continental garden. The name fits very well because the garden is the size of a small continent on most planets. Employing nearly 300,000 people to maintain this lush, beautiful area, visitors are awed by its massive size and impeccable upkeep. Plants from all around the galaxy are showcased in this garden, including many rare and extinct species not found anywhere else.
